The island’s capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is an upbeat town geared for tourism. Tenerife is the largest (2034sq km) and highest (3718m) of the Canary Islands, Mount Teide is Spain’s highest mountain, the island has an estimated population of 660,000.
The volcanic nature of the island of Tenerife meant that the land has few natural beaches.
There are many good beaches around Tenerife for sunbathing and soft sand sports. Los Gigantes and San Juan in the west and Fanabe, with its soft, yellow sand, showers and other facilities, located to the south.
