Held on the 5th and 6th of January, the Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos (The Three Kings Cavalcade) is celebrated in many places, but more so in Santa Cruz, Tenerife and in Valle Gran Rey, on the island of La Gomera.

The whole of February is called Carnival Month in Tenerife. A big festival and pilgrimage called Candelaria (Candlemas) is held on the 2nd February. This festival is celebrated to honour of the appearance of the Virgin of Candelaria, back in the fifteenth Century. The celebrations last for several days, usually accompanied by fine food, fine wine and dancing.
Between the 8th and 15th of February, Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz host a Carnaval week. They put on huge events and parades, coming to a climax on Shrove Tuesday. This is the biggest event of the year, and should not be missed.
Los Cristianos Carnaval is held at the end of February, this carnival marks the end of Tenerife’s Carnival Month. La Gomera also hosts a Carnaval at the end of February/beginning of March.
